{DATE}

Dear {NAME OF LOCAL MP} MP

My family and I are residents of {TOWN/CITY/LOCATION} within your constituency and we are writing to you as our local Member of Parliament.

I am writing to ask you to call for much greater and more urgent action to significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions in real terms by 2030.

In particular, and in the context of the current cost of living and energy supply crisis we believe it is extremely important that UK offshore wind electricty generation is hugely increased and scaled up to both reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also provide the UK with its own energy free of oil and gas from unreliable third parties .

We believe we are witnessing the early effects of climate change now, locally, nationally and globally. This year was another record breaking dry hot summer here in {YOUR LOCATION} in which there was no rainfall of significance for 3 months, significantly affecting local farmers and growers locally. Also nationally and globally we are witnessing clear signs of climate change on a regular basis. It is therefore extremely difficult to ignore the scientific consensus that without drastic cuts in greenhouse gas emissions in the next 10 years, the children and grand children of our own families will face climate catastrophe unless we act now, urgently and decisively.

We are not climate scientists, but it is very clear that insufficient action is currently being taken by the UK to tackle this profound issue that has the potential to destroy life on earth as we currently know it. This is evident from even a very basic reading the current scientific consensus, statements by the UN IPCC and UK's own Committee on Climate Change

One very important aspect of tackling climate change is the removal of fossil fuels from our power infrastructure and replacing them with clean sustainable renewables and storage. It is extremely encouraging that UK offshore wind is now the cheapest way to generate electricity, but this needs to be massively increased, scaled up and rolled out. We are extremely opposed to new licences for fracking and exploring new oil fields, as not only will the burning of these fossil fuels continue to contribut to global warming but condoning continuing to support these activities fails to change the incredibly important message we all need to be constantly reminded of: that we all need to change to renewable sources of energy as soon as possible if catastrophe is to be avoided for the children and grand children of all our families.

We will be using our votes in all forthcoming elections to support candidates and main political parties who's election manifestos are fundamentally underpinned by commitments and detailed proposals to cut greenhouse gas emissions drastically within the next 10 years. We are also encouraging others to do the same.

If you will call for much greater and more urgent action to significantly cut greenhouse gas emissions in real terms by 2030, please let us know. If not, please could you let us know the reason why in the face of such overwhelming evidence.

Yours Sincerely,
